The trust faced a set of evolving and site-specific challenges:
- For Bedford Hospital: ensuring around‐the‐clock infant security in a busy, established maternity/neonatal unit, while minimising disruption to midwifery, neonatal care, visiting families and clinical workflows.
- For the new Luton & Dunstable maternity facility: designing and implementing a baby-tagging solution from the ground up, in a brand-new facility which must meet modern safety, regulatory and operational requirements - including creating an environment where families feel safe, staff feel empowered, and clinical flows remain efficient.
- Across both sites: managing mother-baby matching, infant movement through ward areas, exit or transfer monitoring, tamper / strap off alarms, all within a system that is easy for staff to use, compliant with regulatory expectations (such as from the Care Quality Commission) and operationally reliable with minimal false alarms or disruptions.
- Integrating the system into hospital estates, surveillance, entrance/exit control and building design (particularly at the new facility) while supporting training, change management and ongoing maintenance.
