The East Cheshire NHS Trust has awarded Xtag Medical with a Baby Tagging contract to enhance patient security in Macclesfield Hospital’s maternity department.

The East Cheshire NHS trust provide maternity services to over 1,400 mothers giving birth at Macclesfield Hospital each year. Xtag Medical will supply, install and support the delivery of a ward-wide electronic Abduction Prevention System in the maternity department’s post-natal and NICU units.

The introduction of the system will contribute to the Trust’s Abduction Prevention Strategy and will add an extra layer of security for the department, assisting the hospital’s midwifery and security teams in providing the greatest level of safety for patients, families and staff.

The system will integrate with the hospital’s access control, CCTV and elevators to provide an automated response to an abduction attempt - forcing local exits to lockdown and alerting security and midwifery teams by sounding an abduction alarm. This will enable the hospital’s midwives to focus on delivering better patient care while the system watches over and protects the department’s new-borns from the risk of abduction.

Xtag Medical technicians will complete the installation by early May 2023, followed by a staff induction and training sessions carried out by our training team.
